So I've had a whirlwind holiday season! With my little sister's cancer diagnosis, we've spent the last 9 days or so together as a family, first at my mom's for Christmas and then at my dad's for the week after. I haven't spent so long with the kids since I was 16. It's been good, just a bit loud and boisterous, but I haven't had much privacy or time. Thus no recs posts yet, and I've only managed to read and comment on a few Yuletide fics. (Three of those were my terrifically wonderful gifts! Don't worry, you'll hear much more about them in my rec post when it comes. They're awesome.)

But I did write three fics before the Christmas rush, and here they are!

*drumroll*

Well, that's it! That's my Yuletide reveal for 2013. Only three fics this year, as opposed to past years where I've had eight or nine, but all three of them were pretty hefty, so I'm quite happy with them. (And I do have at least one NYR still in the works.) Thanks to all the readers, kudosers, and commenters, and a special unworthy thank you to the lovely reccers. <3

P.S. To my LJ friends - we got a late Christmas present today! The oncologists called to reschedule M's appointment (to discuss a chemotherapy schedule) to February. It was supposed to be tomorrow, and we fully expected her to have to start chemo immediately. So she has a month's reprieve, which is a long time when you're 10. May all the days of 2014 be as joyful.

Have been writing - which is lovely - mostly due to a wicked case of insomnia last night - which was not. Still, it's nice to have the words flowing again, if still a bit haltingly (just minifills so far).

University Challenge final is tomorrow night. My beloved UCL went out in the semifinals and I lost my favourite player, UCL (Jamie) Karran, he of the massive hair and hilarious answers. :( Oh, Karran, I shall miss you.

The final is going to be Manchester, my second favourites, and one of the Cambridge colleges. Manchester's captain is (Tristan) Burke, who's hilarious in a completely different way from Karran. A lot of people hate him, but I think he's awesome, in an arrogant annoying Christopher-Bryant kind of way. xD And come on, how can you not love someone who recited "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" to Paxman? ("First-round flirtation", declared one of Burke's teammates.)

Of course I am now shipping Burke and Karran. xD This isn't out of nowhere - they did play a match against each other back in an earlier round (Karran & co won), and they seem to be friends (or at least they talk to each other on Twitter, and Karran wants Manchester to beat Cambridge). And Karran is canon gay - I don't know about Burke.

Still, this is completely a fandom of one. xDDD

Anyway, I need to run to the shop before it closes, so I'll stop here.

Or rather, I don't NEED to, but I want Pepsi Max and chocolate. xD

Love you all.

EDIT: Ahahaha, I have found a video of UCL Karran! Not from University Challenge, though, from another of my favourite quiz shows, Pointless (which he was apparently on last year).

I love you, Jamie Karran.

I know I haven't been around LJ much for the last week or so, and I just wanted to let you know that I haven't vanished or anything. ;) I'm still on Twitter, and I'm still around, I'm just not writing at the moment. (Except for Yuletide, which I can't post yet, of course!)

I've mostly been working, and helping my flatmate get ready to move (tomorrow's the big day), and trying to stay warm. I don't know why I'm having trouble writing at the moment, but after October-November's crazy sprint of productivity, I suppose it was bound to happen. 56 fics on the 15th prompt post, in the end - so perhaps I should just relax and let the words come back when they will.

Meanwhile, I'm keeping up with Rev and Russell Howard's Good News, and slowly but surely working my way through Spooks (I'm into Series 7 now, so I've made it to the Armitage era). And trying to keep up with politics, of course! I did watch the autumn statement today, and I'll try to catch PMQs and Gordon tomorrow (hopefully helping the flatmate move doesn't conflict).

Yuletide - well, we won't talk about Yuletide. ;) Except to say that I was by turns intimidated, excited, and challenged by my assignment, and that I aim to give it my very best. It's all so ~mysterious!

I can't believe it's December on Thursday. Where has the year gone?!

On that somewhat bittersweet note, I'm off to bed. If you're striking tomorrow, good luck, and be safe! <3

My weekend looks like it will be mostly spent with my nose in the various volumes of Terry Pratchett's Watch series. I'm on the second one and there are (counts) five more to go.

So this is my weekend:

I blame [livejournal.com profile] kainosite for this. [livejournal.com profile] kainosite recommended the Watch series, and I - who had previously read only three Pratchett books and kept putting off diving into the entire oeuvre - foolishly and wisely followed [livejournal.com profile] kainosite's advice. All hail [livejournal.com profile] kainosite.

Back to the Watch's attempts to figure out the Gonne.
